This small lake is full of charm and has a magnificent color and transparent water. Some brave people bathe there on very hot days. It is well worth the short detour (unmarked trail but well marked and easy to follow)

Very beautiful waterfall which takes its name from the effect of the water on the rocks, instead of a large jet there are multitudes of jets ricocheting off the rocks giving the impression that there is a veil. Worth the detour from the refuge-hotel did Giobessey

We did the tour in mid-May 2023 and unfortunately we couldn't get through to the lakes due to the snow. You could have guessed, now we're smarter :) I'll be back some other time, the tour looks fantastic!

The Pétarel lakes are located at 2,090 meters perched on a plateau. The lakes are absolutely stunning in color with the Valgaudemar valley and its peaks in the background.

The road that runs along the Séveraise valley is about 25km with about 800m of elevation gain. The road to Gioberney is quite quiet as it is a dead end. In the summer there can be quite a few hikers using Gioberney as a starting point before heading to Les Écrins.

The Ecrins National Park boasts exceptional biodiversity. You'll find a rich variety of flora, including marjoram, lilies, gentians, and aconites, thriving across diverse environments from scree slopes to vibrant moors. Many of the natural monuments themselves serve as excellent viewpoints. For instance, the Lacs de Pétarel offer stunning panoramic views of the Valgaudemar valley and its peaks.
