Lake Kaltern is one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol (although it is rather poor in terms of lakes) and is considered – along with Lake Klopein – the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. The water temperature reaches up to 28°C in summer, and the bathing season runs from May to September. The eastern and western shores are mainly developed for tourism; the southern shore is reedy. In addition to swimming, other popular sports include rowing and pedal boating, sailing, and windsurfing.
