Square Rock is really more a collection of large granite boulders at this summit. There is a step ladder here leading you to a great lookout from the top of the rocks.

Square Rock Track is an accessible route that passes through open grasslands, granite outcrops, and mixed eucalypt forest with some great views of the Ridgeline. It gradually climbs until reaching Square Rock, so pace yourself on the way up and make sure you have enough water.

The Kosciuszko Walk climbs from Thredbo through alpine ash forest, snow gum woodland, and open alpine country to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest mountain at 2,228 metres. Much of the route follows raised metal boardwalks designed to protect the fragile alpine environment, especially across the exposed high plains above the tree line. In summer, the track is known for alpine wildflowers and wide views across Kosciuszko National Park, while conditions can change quickly with strong wind, snow, and low temperatures possible even outside winter.

Merritts Nature Track climbs steeply from Thredbo Village through snow gum forest and alpine vegetation towards Eagles Nest and the upper section of the Kosciuszko Walk. The route is known for its long stair climbs and steady elevation gain, but the higher you climb, the wider the views become across the Snowy Mountains and surrounding alpine ridgelines. Unlike the elevated metal boardwalks higher up near Mount Kosciuszko, this section feels more rugged and forested underfoot, especially through the lower alpine woodland.
