May 12, 2026, Fishermen Fountain (Fischerbrunnen) Bad Münder

The Söltjerbrunnen in Bad Münder am Deister commemorates the long tradition of salt production in the town. The fountain was created in 1987 by the sculptor Bernd Maro and stands in front of the town hall on Marktstraße. It depicts two so-called "Söltjer", or salt workers, at work at a boiling pan. One collects the salt produced, the other transports it further in a basket. The figures illustrate the hard and strenuous work of salt production, which has been documented in Bad Münder since the year 1033. Today, the fountain is considered a symbol of the economic importance of salt and commemorates the historical development of the town as a salt and spa resort.

One of the best ice cream parlors in the Hanover region, especially after a Trans-Deister.

The little detour through the old town is also easy to do on a racing bike and is definitely worth it. A few meters further on there is a great fountain directly in front of the town hall in Bad Münder.

I found the “slotted” overflows at the upper part of the lake particularly interesting. Directly below are gullies through which the water can be drained.

The Söltjerbrunnen fountain in front of the town hall commemorates the history of salt production in Bad Münder. It is located in Marktstrasse, which is definitely worth a visit because of the well-restored buildings there.
