Beautiful clearing in the forest

The Rauschloch Rock, also known as the "Hauenstein Ship" or "Zimmerberg Rock," is accessible via the "Rauschloch Tour" hiking trail in Hauenstein. The Rauschloch Rock originally consisted of two rock towers. In May 2003, the right tower collapsed, leaving only its base. Trees growing on the steep slope prevented the rock debris from falling into the inhabited valley below, thus preventing further damage.

The Stations of the Cross from the Erfweiler "Kapellche" (at the edge of Erfweiler) initially run flat through the Glastal valley and then climb steeply uphill to the Winterkirchel chapel. It consists of 12 stations, i.e., 12 large, hewn sandstone blocks, which unfortunately now look quite weathered. (A Catholic Stations of the Cross usually has 14 stations, but there are regional variations, as here in Erfweiler.)

A particularly beautiful spot for a rest – with a view of the meadows in the Glastal valley. The Stations of the Cross to the Winterkirchel chapel do not run directly here, but along the lower path by the meadows. The starting point of the Stations of the Cross is not here, but at the "Kapellche" (at the edge of Erfweiler).

This beautiful trail above the Langenbach valley is approximately 1 km long. It does not begin at the Erfweiler Waterfall, but rather near the Eibach spring (although on the other side of the valley) and ends before the Erfweiler Kneipp pool.

For access to the Rauschlochfelsen, I recommend choosing the access from the raised water reservoir at the "Rauschloch" mountain saddle: This steep path is shorter and not as overgrown (blackberry bushes!) as the other (serpentine) path.

I took a detour from the Schusterpfad (Schuster Trail) to reach the Rauschlochfelsen (Rauschloch Rock). The trail was a bit overgrown at the beginning, but it's only a few meters. It's not the largest, but it's still a very impressive rock here near Hauenstein.

Like a secret gateway to another world? Well, not exactly, but the narrow gap in the rock certainly has something special about it. Incidentally, a lizard could also be seen on the sun-heated sandstone.
