Old Duck Pond is a peaceful pond found along the Flagstaff Urban Trail System, with a wide diversity of resident birds and ducks. The paved path runs along Buffalo Park, and is a smooth, flat trail with views of the meadows, Elden Mountain, and Mount Humphreys in the background.

Buffalo Park is a really popular park in Flagstaff. The main loop in the park is a couple miles, pretty flat, and smooth enough for wheelchairs and strollers. There are views of both Elden Mountain and Mount Humphreys, and you can access a bunch of other hiking and biking trails (including the Arizona Trail) from the trails in the park.

With water being a sparse resource in Arizona ecosystems, this water source is home to many different species of animals and plants. Enjoy this area on the trail to cool off, as there is often an abundance of shade and cool winds in the area.

One of the many cinder cones of the San Francisco Volcanic Field, the ancient volcano of Red Mountain erupted nearly three-quarters of 1 million years ago. Here at the amphitheater, you will be surrounding by giant walls and hoodoos. This is a must-have experience when exploring the wild places outside of Flagstaff, AZ.

Being a bit off the beaten path, Slate Mountain acts as one of the more rewarding day hikes in the area. This very accessible peaks offers 360 views of Kendrick Mountain, the Painted Desert, Red Mountain, the Grand Canyon, and the Kachina Peaks. The only way to gain access to this peak is by following the old jeep road, now solely a hiking trail.

Red Mountain is on the way between the Grand Canyon and just before Flagstaff. A 4km round trip leads to the sheer Red Mountain cliff, visible from the parking lot. Before you get to the basin, you have to climb a wooden ladder. Large dogs may find it difficult to get them up the wooden ladder. Behind the ladder you come to the valley basin, which looks like an amphitheater to me. Great different smooth rock formations made of lava and yellow-red sandstone await you. The tour is ideal if you want to stretch your legs between the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff/Sedona.
