Dr. Hermann Iseke was born in 1856 in Holungen, the son of a farmer. In 1868, he attended high school in Heiligenstadt and then moved to Mühlhausen. In honor of his 100th birthday, his hometown of Holungen erected a memorial stone on the Sonnenstein on July 7, 1956. He died in 1907 in Kalkfontein, South Africa. His remains were transferred to his hometown of Holungen and buried on July 24, 1907.
