A route suitable for everyone, both on foot and by bike. The best time to travel the route is definitely spring. The route starts from Villafranca P. (where there is parking) and continues towards Cardè and then goes back to the other bank of the Po. Nothing prevents you from starting from Cardè.

The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Pilone originates from an extraordinary event: according to the chronicles, on July 23, 1684, a votive pillar dedicated to the Madonna began to mysteriously swing for several days, attracting crowds of faithful. On August 7, the first mass was celebrated under a tent, followed by the construction of a chapel to protect the Pilone. However, the influx of pilgrims made a larger building necessary: thus the current sanctuary was born, designed by the architect Gian Francesco Baroncelli, with a three-nave structure that still today houses the original chapel.

It is interesting to follow the entire path that runs along the Po, from Villafranca and almost up to Carde', then cross the bridge and return from the opposite side.

According to the chronicles, on 23 July 1684 there was the beginning of a miraculous oscillation of a votive pylon dedicated to the Madonna, which continued for several days[1]. This event quickly attracted a large number of faithful and on 7 August the first mass was held under a tent set up near the Pylon. A chapel was quickly erected that could contain the Pylon, but the construction was totally unsuitable for containing the mass of faithful who flocked to that place; it was therefore decided to build the current sanctuary, with a three-nave plan, around the previously built chapel. The construction was entrusted to the architect Gian Francesco Baroncelli.
