Yes, the Sentiero delle Ochette is considered an easy trail, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels, including children. Its generally flat terrain with negligible elevation gain ensures a comfortable walk for most hikers.
The trail offers a diverse and pleasant natural landscape. You can expect to traverse shady poplar groves, plain woods, and cultivated fields, including cornfields, while following the bends of the Po River. The path incorporates small beaches along the river, as well as streams and canals often crossed by practical iron walkways. The terrain is generally flat.
The trail is rich in natural beauty and provides ample opportunities to observe local avifauna, such as ducks, herons, woodpeckers, and colorful bee-eaters. Beyond wildlife, you'll also encounter unexpected sculptures and artworks hidden among the trees and fields, adding an artistic touch. A reconstructed ancient wooden river ferry offers a glimpse into historical life along the river.
On foot, the loop trail typically takes three to four hours to complete. If you prefer cycling, it can be enjoyed in about an hour.
The Sentiero delle Ochette is a well-maintained loop, clearly marked with distinctive goose-shaped signs and kilometer markers, ensuring easy navigation for hikers.
The trail can be enjoyed throughout much of the year. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and beautiful scenery. Spring is particularly good for birdwatching, as many species are nesting in the area.
While not explicitly stated, trails of this nature in Italy are generally dog-friendly. Given the abundant wildlife, it is highly recommended to keep dogs on a leash to protect the local fauna and ensure their safety.
No, there are no permits or entrance fees required to hike the Sentiero delle Ochette. It is freely accessible to the public.
The trail winds between the towns of Villafranca Piemonte, Moretta, and Cardè. You can typically find parking in or near these towns to access different points of the loop. Specific parking areas are usually well-indicated locally.
Along the route, you'll find unique features such as a Window on the river, and the main Ochette Trail itself, which is known for its artistic installations and a reconstructed ancient wooden river ferry. There's also a Pump fountain NOT drinkable, so remember to bring your own water.
Yes, while primarily following the Sentiero delle Ochette (100%), the route also briefly intersects with sections of the Ciclovia del Po (11%), EuroVelo 8 - Mediterranean Route - part Italy 3 (5%), and the Via delle Risorgive (5%).
The Sentiero delle Ochette is located within the broader area of Parco del Monviso. While there are no specific entrance fees for this particular trail, visitors are encouraged to respect park regulations, such as staying on marked paths, not disturbing wildlife, and practicing leave-no-trace principles to preserve the natural environment.
Beautiful circular route, flat in the last offshoot of the Monviso park, it runs alongside a "small" Po near its source as the crow flies, you can see an old ferry disused when the bridge to cross it was built, and you walk along paths in the countryside in an environment that has remained very natural, almost nineteenth-century, a beautiful ancient sensation. Unfortunately by mistake I formatted the memory of the reflex, losing the photos, except for the few taken with the phone.

Easy itinerary without difficulties suitable for everyone. It is a walk surrounded by greenery. I found the contrast of the river algae with the clarity of the water very suggestive. Bring drinks and food with you as there are no refreshment points. Good walk.
Beautiful route on the banks of the Po. It winds between Villafranca (TO) and Cardé (CN), in a ring that runs along the two banks of the river. The right bank has nice little beaches here and there to let the dogs bathe and have a picnic; the left bank doesn't, it only has a very small one, but on the left side there is more shade. You walk through poplar woods and you are surrounded by birdsong. A few swans and a few ducks on the water. There are a few white herons and cormorants. On the left bank there are many rabbits and some of their burrows are visible. If there are no people and it is quiet, you can see them crossing the path. There are some very cute puppies. It is best to start from Villafranca, where there is a large parking lot. ⚠️ Numerous walkways with grates. Not all dogs like them. ⚠️ Doing the ring, the Villafranca bridge does not have a safe passage on the main road. You have to climb over the guardrail 2 times to get to the cycle path and go back down the steps that lead to the parking lot. With the dog tied up it is not the max.
