Situated on the edge of one of the most beautiful bays in the world, a two-minute walk from Place Louis XIV and the port, Grande Plage is the must-see beach in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. With its fine sand and calm waters protected by three seawalls, it's the ideal beach for the whole family, especially for young children. Several generations of Saint-Jean-de-Luz residents gather here. The three seawalls that close off the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz - Ciboure protect the Grande Plage of Saint-Jean-de-Luz from large waves and strong currents. Just under 1 km long, Grande Plage of Saint-Jean-de-Luz is an ideal place to enjoy the beach and the ocean in complete tranquility, with rafts and diving boards located just a few meters from the shore. The beach is supervised by lifeguards from May to September, every day from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A renowned marina and seaside resort, Capbreton combines the joys of the beach and relaxation with the pleasures of surfing and sailing. A destination on the Landes Atlantic coast, popular for its eight fine sandy beaches, its fishing and marina port, its sailing and surfing schools, its shops, and its summer atmosphere. A symbol of the seaside town, the long wooden jetty, located at the entrance to the port, enchants walkers and anglers alike. An ideal place to recharge your batteries and treat yourself to a seaside break. Facing the jetty and the ocean, the Aquacéo center is an aquatic fitness center with indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzis, swan necks, sauna, hammam, and beauty-massage spa.

There are also tranquil routes through rolling green hills and picturesque valleys, particularly in the Béarn and Basque Country territories.
Yes, the region offers numerous greenways and marked cycle paths suitable for relaxed touring and family outings. Examples include the Corniche Basque Loop from Saint-Jean-de-Luz and the Nive Greenway Loop. The Round of the Passes from Ascain Trail also offers a challenging circular experience.
Beyond the stunning natural landscapes, you can explore various attractions. Along coastal routes, you'll find charming towns like Biarritz (Biarritz) and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. The region also boasts historical sites such as the National Museum and Estate of the Château de Pau and the Citadel of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
The best time for touring cycling generally depends on the terrain you wish to explore. Coastal routes are pleasant from spring through autumn. For mountain passes, late spring to early autumn (May to October) is ideal, as snow can block higher routes outside these months. Summer offers the warmest weather but can also be busier.
Yes, many routes weave through the rich cultural landscape of the region. The Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Sare cycle route, for example, connects coastal charm with the inland beauty of Sare, one of France's 'most beautiful villages'. The Gorges de Kakouetta and Gorges of Holzarté are notable natural features in the area, often accessible via short detours or hikes from cycling routes.
While many touring routes are on paved roads, the diverse topography means some routes may include unpaved or difficult segments, particularly in mountain areas. The region's greenways are typically well-maintained, but for specific gravel-focused routes, it's advisable to check individual tour details on komoot for surface information.
