Torre del Sasso Trail

Highlight • Trail

Torre del Sasso, located on the crest of the Serra del Mito at 116 meters above sea level, was part of a system of towers built along the entire coast of Salento, equipped with cannons, in sight of each other; so that, in case of raids by the Turks or pirates, the populations inside could be properly warned. The tower, whose existence is ascertained in 1584, is partially destroyed. To protect it, the various local associations are continually seeking support for the administrations for recovery.

Tratturo Corte Guti

Highlight • Trail

A splendid municipal sheep track immersed in the green of the Vallonee oaks that from the church of the Devils allows us to go towards the Serra del Mito, Torre del Sasso. Passing this path really allows us to take a leap into the centuries when the roads were beaten only and only by the furrows of carts, by the trampling of mules and peasants, surrounded by dry stone walls and beautiful countryside. Here the only audible noises are the song of cicadas, the chirping of birds and the blowing of the wind ...

Abandoned for decades and under meters of vegetation that made it invisible to all, it was found in 2017 by the ASD MTB Tricase. From 2020 it officially became part of the paths protected by the Park Authority naming it with the code "PNR COL F20 Tratturo Corte Guti".

Dolmen Li Scusi

Highlight • Historical Site

The prevailing interpretation considers dolmens as a megalithic tombs or burial chambers, consisting of stones and slabs embedded in the ground with a monolithic roofing slab. The Dolmens of Salento could date back to the V and IV millennium BC. The uncut local limestone blocks (called megaliths) rest on the ground and support a large slab which, placed horizontally, acts as a roof. Discovered by Luigi Maggiulli in 1867, in a land full of rocky outcrops, in the territory of Minervino, this dolmen was carefully examined and described by Cosimo De Giorgi in 1879. The dolmen rests on an outcropping rock bank with an irregular quadrangular covering slab supported by eight columns of stacked stones, and crossed by a hole with a diameter of about 20 centimeters.

The Old Woman's Boulders

Highlight • Natural Monument

Story # 1
In the land of the Messapians, among the sacred rocks, one day the Epimelid nymphs were soaring in dances with sweet and sensual movements. The young Messapi, who grazed their flocks in that place, were conquered but, unaware of being in the presence of divine creatures, they challenged them, presuming to be superior in dance. At the end of the confrontation, despite the unequivocal superiority of the nymphs, the shepherds
naively claimed a victory that in any case would never be recognized, their fate had already been sealed at the moment of the challenge and the nymphs, with their curses, transformed them into plants (olive trees) that the desperation of the young people promptly began to contort .
In teaching: do not challenge the gods.

Castro Castle

Highlight • Trail

Once a fortress of strategic importance for the defense of the coast, the Castle of Castro tells the glories of a glorious past. Built in the XVI century on a pre-existing structures (almost certainly on the remains of a Byzantine building used to defense of the fortified Roman village), it's still possible to see a circular tower, a lanceolate bastion, the "Torre del Cavaliere" and some sections of curtain walls. Inside persists a large rectangular courtyard, that once housed the handicrafts and agricultural products that were marketed throughout the Mediterranean. Since 1780 the castle fell into a state of disrepair. After about two centuries of neglect, three distinct architectural recovery interventions were finally carried out over the last twenty years.

April 26, 2026, Torre del Sasso Trail

The Sentiero della Torre del Sasso is one of the most evocative trails on the Salento Adriatic coast, suspended between sky and sea. It runs along the Serra del Mito, offering continuous panoramas of the limestone cliffs and the infinite blue of the Adriatic.

Inserted in the collection https://www.komoot.com/it-it/collection/2431081/-pietre-del-salento - A short distance from Minervino di Lecce the dive into the past becomes marked, archaic and legendary, traditional stories and tales they bring alive and give soul to the megaliths anchored there since the dawn of time. The megalithic garden of Italy has its own charm and monuments such as the Scusi dolmen and the adjacent cromlech. Nothing else to add for one of the most representative dolmens of Puglia. Simply fantastic. https://youtu.be/cPsaj1Ia8Ns?feature=shared

"A golden hen and seven chicks also all made of gold are the prize for those who manage, without hesitation, to follow up on the old woman's riddles. That old woman who lives there and appears in the presence of those who dare, close of the longest days of the year, wandering around its boulders" Archaic place of great charm. Legends make these megaliths come alive. Unfortunately the olive grove that surrounded it has been lost due to the well-known xylella but it is hoped that it will be redeveloped in some way because it deserves to be valorised.
