The Protestant Castle Church of Rumpenheim is a historically significant church building, a listed monument, picturesquely nestled in the castle park of the Offenbach district of Rumpenheim. Although it is located in the middle of the stately, princely park, it has always served as the regular village church for the Rumpenheim population. The Baroque hall church was built and consecrated between 1756 and 1761 as a replacement for a medieval predecessor building, which had been plundered and burned down by troops during the Thirty Years' War. Its external appearance of unplastered, red sandstone is particularly striking, making the sacred building visually stand out from the neighboring, brightly white Rumpenheim Castle. Contrary to the assumption that the stately house had endowed the church, the new building was financed by the Rumpenheim citizens themselves through considerable persistence and their own financial sacrifices. The bright interior reflects the simplicity of the Reformed tradition, as the design is largely unadorned, with the focus entirely on the Word of God and the central pulpit altar with slight Rococo elements. Nevertheless, the noble history is present inside: below the gentlemen's gallery are princely boxes built in a classical style for the princely family of Hesse-Kassel. A special historical showpiece is the organ, which was a gift from Duke Adolf of Nassau in 1852 and was elaborately restored a few years ago. The stately surroundings of the church are completed in the exterior area by the mausoleum directly opposite, which is now empty, and the princely burial site on the south side, where the mortal remains of 17 members of the House of Hesse-Kassel-Rumpenheim found their final resting place.
