July 20, 2026, Holland Creek Trail

The trail parallels Holland Creek from above, with benches at a few scenic rest areas. There are multiple waterfalls to explore along the trail, all cascading down into clear round basins along the trailside.

A short spur trail takes you to a clearing where the mossy bedrock rises out of the trees and gives you a view northward across Ladysmith. If the weather is clear, you can see the looming white-capped mountains in the direction of Whistler across the Strait of Georgia.

This path takes you through the forest to the shore of Long Lake, one of the main features of Yellow Point Bog Ecological Reserve. This area was heavily logged in the early 20th century so most of the forest is second growth. However, you can find pockets of mature cedar and fir trees on the east side of Long Lake.

June 20, 2026, Stocking Lake

Stocking Lake was dammed in the 1960s to provide clean drinking water to Ladysmith and nearby towns. From here you can look along the length of the lake, and there are trails you can explore that circumnavigate the water's edge.

This is an old logging road and makes for a fairly easy walk through the woods toward Stocking Lake and Banon Creek Falls. It's a pleasant walk. You can drive up and intersect the trail closer to the falls if you wish to skip some of the hike along the logging road.

June 20, 2026, Banon Falls

The steep cascade of Upper Banon Creek Falls is quite tall and graceful, and there are more little waterfalls to discover if you adventure past the first lookout. The last little trail to the falls (once you leave the logging road) is steep and a little overgrown, but short and well worth the effort.
