St. Lucia Church in Stolberg (Germany) is an important and historically valuable Catholic church in the Altstadt (Old Town) of Stolberg (Rhineland, near Aachen). Location: East of Stolberger Burg (castle) in the old town. Status: Catholic parish church and the oldest church in Stolberg; mother church of other parishes in the region. The church has its origins in a medieval chapel that served as a castle and later as a parish church. The current building acquired its characteristic Neo-Romanesque basilica form in the 19th and early 20th centuries due to expansions stemming from population growth during the industrial era. The church tower began construction in 1759; the lower sections are still original. After the Second World War, the spire was replaced by an onion-shaped tower helmet. The church is partially built into the hillside, with stairways accessible from various sides, contributing to its picturesque setting beneath the castle. At the south entrance stands a striking limestone sculpture of a devil with a rooster. Inside, you'll find a 42-stop organ, built in 1976 by Heinz Wilbrand, reusing parts of an older organ from 1938. The church building also houses historical sacred objects, stained-glass windows from the late 19th and 20th centuries, and other valuable liturgical artifacts.
