Tips from the Community

Frank (Team KTM Hude)
September 28, 2025, Mäusetunnel Bremen

The most important connecting route between the Walle district and the allotment gardens and recreational areas in the green west of Bremen is the Mäusetunnel, which connects Hagenweg and Almatastraße. Until its renovation last year by the ASV (Association of German Railways), Deutsche Bahn (German Railways), and the Walle Advisory Board, the pedestrian and bicycle underpass under the railway tracks was considered a place of fear. Low ceilings and poor lighting prevented an inviting and safe approach to the local recreation area. In the summer of 2020, the completed and long-awaited Mäusetunnel path connection was finally officially opened.

This is the largest beach on the lake. The good water quality of the groundwater-fed, slightly salty lake invites you to swim on hot summer days. Play equipment provides additional entertainment for younger swimmers.

The Stadtwaldsee or Unisee is a popular swimming lake. Outside of the swimming season, it's also a great place for birdwatching.

It is assumed that the hill with the viewing pavilion from 1909 on the otherwise flat terrain was created by excavating the small Stadtwaldsee, which is right next to it and which, when viewed from above, has a bit of the shape of a 3-blade ship's propeller.
