There are certainly more beautiful places. Like Oud Terneuzen, for example. But perhaps still interesting for architecture enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, the old shopping street is now deserted. But Oud Terneuzen is absolutely worth seeing.

In the middle of the water stands a red, illuminated ship. The sign says it belongs to the Flying Dutchman.

The white mural depicts the residents and their lives. The sea creatures represent fishmongers. The pigeons represent a racing pigeon fancier. The bottle of liquor represents the custom of serving liquor to neighbors in the home of a newborn child. The toilet building suggests that there was once a rather disreputable latrine in the alley. The caravan owner also lived there. And the black figures represent the first Black person in the city, who opened a jazz bar. The musicians are also part of it.

Old Terneuzen is an entire street and includes Kandeelsträat, Vissteeg Toulpad, and Brugpad. There are many interesting buildings and murals. I was told about a painting that depicts the history of the people who lived on the street. The fish represents the fishmonger, the toilet block, and a latrine that used to be located in the street. The black figures represent the city's first "Black" person, who founded the bar Porgy and Bess and hosted jazz evenings there. The musicians can also be seen.

Not too big but a nice number of streets to walk through the oldest part of Terneuzen and have something to eat or drink!

The Grote Kerk on Noordstraat in Terneuzen is located on a site whose history dates back to 1598. Since that year, there has always been a church on this site. Church services were held every Sunday until 1999. In 1999, the Reformed Church decided to no longer use the church for regular meetings. In order to preserve the building, the Stichting Behoud Grote Kerk Terneuzen was established in 2000. The Foundation is responsible for the operation and maintenance. The church is used for both religious and cultural purposes. Source: https://www.grotekerkterneuzen.nl/

The alleys Tuinpad, Vissteeg, Kandeelstraat form the oldest remaining part of the city centre of Terneuzen. It is situated on and around the old 16th century rampart. The neighbourhood is characterised by narrow streets and historic buildings on the Tuinpad, Vissteeg, Kandeelstraat and Molenzicht. For many it is an undiscovered part of Terneuzen. The neighbourhood offers accommodation to an information point, small-scale catering establishments and holiday homes. An oasis of peace during the week, bustling in the weekend, right in the centre, where there is something for everyone.
