Johann Heinrich August von Duncker was born in Rathenow and was the son of a pastor. He also studied theology himself. When he returned to Rathenow after his studies, he produced microscopes and glasses in the rectory. On March 10, 1801, he opened the Royal Privileged Optical Industrial Establishment, later known as the Rathenow Optical Works, with the garrison pastor Samuel Christoph Wagener. He invented the multi-grinding machine for the manufacture of lenses. The Kaiserbahnhof - originally also the Prince's Pavilion - is the almost inconspicuous building immediately next to the main station, which, after extensive renovation work with the support of numerous sponsors and under the leadership of the Arbeitsfördergesellschaft Premnitz mbH, has been restored to its former glory. From 1913, the house served as a separate reception building for Kaiser Wilhelm II's daughter, Victoria Luise, and her husband Ernst August, Duke of Braunschweig and Lüneburg, who was transferred to Rathenow as an officer in the Hussar Regiment in 1913. Both the architecture and the name suggest that the model was the imperial sailor station "Kongsnaes", built in the Norwegian style in Potsdam between 1892 and 1895.

The beautifully restored station building and the station forecourt are an eye-catcher. Unfortunately, things don't look so good inside and on the platforms. If Porsche-Wissing, as the top railway official, wants a CEO position at the railway, then he has to put in more effort.
