When we visited in August 2024 it was possible to access Cromell's bridge from the east side of the new road bridge. But access was quite hazardous along a steep bank side so great care needed.

Families can explore an incredibly diverse range of landscapes. Yes, Lancashire has many excellent circular routes perfect for families. For example, the Stonyhurst College & the Ribble Way loop from Hurst Green offers a pleasant walk along the River Ribble. Lancashire's trails often lead to fascinating points of interest. You could visit the Rivington Pike Tower on the Rivington Pike & Moor loop, offering stunning views. The Tolkien Trail from Hurst Green takes you through landscapes said to have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien. For those interested in peaks, the Pendle Hill summit trig point is a notable landmark on the Pendle Hill Circular Walk.
While many trails in Lancashire are family-friendly, truly pram-friendly options often require paved or very well-maintained paths. Look for routes along canal towpaths, such as sections of the Lancaster Canal Walk, or designated paths within country parks like Beacon Fell Country Park. Always check the route details and surface type on komoot before heading out with a pram.
Many trails in Lancashire are dog-friendly, but it's always best to check local signage and regulations, especially in nature reserves or areas with livestock. The Forest of Bowland and West Pennine Moors offer vast spaces for dogs to enjoy. Remember to keep dogs on a lead where required and clean up after them.
Lancashire is beautiful year-round. Spring brings wildflowers and milder weather, while summer offers longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures, perfect for exploring the fells and reservoirs. Autumn showcases stunning foliage, particularly in woodland areas. Even winter can be magical, with crisp air and potentially snow-dusted landscapes, though some higher routes may require more preparation.
Yes, many family-friendly routes in Lancashire start or end near charming villages or towns that offer cafes and pubs. For instance, the Nicky Nook & Grizedale Reservoir loop is accessible from Scorton, a village known for its amenities. Similarly, routes around Hurst Green, like the Tolkien Trail, often have options for refreshments nearby.

Absolutely! Lancashire's varied habitats are home to a wide array of wildlife. In areas like the Forest of Bowland, you might spot birds of prey.
