The foundation took place at the beginning of the 12th century as a richly endowed proprietary church of the Styrian margraves. In 1122, a chapel was documented as being consecrated to St. Veit. In 1162, the church was transferred to Göttweig Abbey with its elevation to a parish church. In 1330, a rectory was endowed by the Hohenberg vogtei owners. In 1473, the master builder Hans Kschässper was presumably named for the nave. In 1685/1687, the late Gothic church tower was expanded. In 1763/1771, there was a renovation. In 1830, the cemetery was abandoned. In 1891, the interior of the church was re-Gothicized. In 1968/1970, there was an interior and exterior restoration, during which the Neo-Gothic furnishings were largely removed. In 1970, the medieval rectory was demolished and replaced by a new building.
