The church stands next to the castle and was originally its castle chapel. The medieval castle was destroyed in 1525 during the Peasants' War, later the present castle complex was built on its foundations – the chapel became part of this new seat of power. Inside, magnificent baroque stucco work and burial monuments with the coat of arms of the von Aufseß family recall the era of noble rule. A small house of worship with a great history.

Krögelstein is more than a picturesque village nestled between Dolomite rocks: high above the Kaiserbach once stood the castle of the Lords of Krögelstein. Their history dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1523, the rock castle was destroyed by the Swabian League. The large watchtower is said to have been blown up with four tons of gunpowder. Today, remnants of walls above the rocky gorge are a reminder of the vanished castle. The houses of the village nestle directly against the striking Dolomite rocks: the "Alten Fritz", the Schwedenfelsen, and the Löwenfelsen.

A castle already stood here in the 14th century. It was destroyed by the Hussites in 1430, rebuilt around 1500, and destroyed again just a few decades later, in 1525 during the Peasants' War. But the site was not abandoned. Later, the current castle was built on the grounds of the old castle. It is privately owned and cannot be visited.

The Kaiserbachtal is a beautiful, quiet section of the Franconian Switzerland. The Kaiserbach stream winds through the meadow landscape under the wooded slopes and striking dolomite rocks.

A small adventure awaits the younger hikers here: a large, hollowed-out tree trunk invites you to crawl through. The crawling tunnel is part of the children's adventure trail in Kainachtal and is located near the water playground.
