Krögelstein is more than a picturesque village nestled between Dolomite rocks: high above the Kaiserbach once stood the castle of the Lords of Krögelstein. Their history dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1523, the rock castle was destroyed by the Swabian League. The large watchtower is said to have been blown up with four tons of gunpowder. Today, remnants of walls above the rocky gorge are a reminder of the vanished castle. The houses of the village nestle directly against the striking Dolomite rocks: the "Alten Fritz", the Schwedenfelsen, and the Löwenfelsen.

The Obere Tor stands at the highest point of Hollfeld's old town and is an impressive testament to the medieval town fortifications. The fortifications of the upper town were built around 1300. The gate was originally designed as a bridge gate tower with a drawbridge over the deep moat and protected the access to the fortified upper town. The current gate's building substance dates back to the 16th/17th century. The Pilgerndorf Cross (also known as the Pilgerndorf Wayside Cross) is a renovated religious wayside shrine near Hollfeld, closely linked to the local village history. The cross stands on the edge of the Hollfeld municipal forest, along the historic old road from Pilgerndorf to Hollfeld. As a typical wayside or field cross, it traditionally serves as a place of reflection for travelers and farm workers, as well as a landmark in the landscape. In 2019, Pilgerndorf celebrated its 700th anniversary. The proceeds from this village festival were earmarked for the extensive restoration of the cross. Following the renovation, the cross was re-erected in its original location on June 17, 2022, by numerous volunteers. The official dedication took place on August 28, 2022, during a service led by Pastor Markus Brendel.
