The "fountains" in Fasaneriesee (as well as in Schöntal Park) serve to aerate the water. In warm years, the Röderbach stream, which feeds the lake, sometimes dries up completely. To prevent fish from dying, the aerators increase the oxygen content in the water. The electric aeration system was installed in 2023. Until then, the Aschaffenburg Fire Department aerated the lake as needed.

Aschaffenburg's old town is a true gem in Lower Franconia – charming, historic, and full of life 🏰🌸. It combines medieval flair with baroque splendor and a Mediterranean touch, which is why the city is affectionately called the "Bavarian Nice." 🏘️ What makes the old town special? Half-timbered houses & winding alleys: Especially around Schlossgasse and Theaterplatz, you'll find lovingly restored buildings and small squares with fountains and sundials. Johannisburg Palace: The imposing Renaissance palace made of red sandstone sits directly on the Main River and is the city's landmark. Pompejanum: A replica of a Roman villa from Pompeii – unique worldwide and a highlight for art and history lovers. College Church of St. Peter and Alexander: The city's oldest church, whose origins date back to 950. Our Lady's Parish Church: Baroque beauty with a Gothic tower – a place of peace amidst the hustle and bustle. Theaterplatz with its sundial: A modern square with an ancient feel – here you can tell the time by the shadows. 🍽️ Food & Atmosphere Numerous quaint pubs, cafés, and bistros invite you to linger – especially in the small alleys surrounding the old town. In summer, the old town transforms into a stage for open-air concerts, markets, and festivals. 🚶♂️ Tip for your visit The old town is wonderful to explore on foot. Start at Johannisburg Castle, stroll through Schlossgasse, visit the churches, and treat yourself to an ice cream or a glass of wine on the banks of the Main River. It is especially beautiful in spring when the magnolias are in bloom in Schöntal Park. Source: KI
