The church may be small, but the pulpit is lavishly decorated. The altar, on the other hand, has a very modern feel.

After the demolition of the old Holy Spirit Church, the present-day building was built between 1897 and 1902 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The Catholic Holy Spirit Church, with medieval roots on Schultesstraße, dates back to the Hospital of the Holy Spirit, founded before 1338. Its church, destroyed except for the choir in 1554 (Second City Devastation), was rebuilt in 1598. By the end of the 16th century, a new Gothic church was built on the same site, which served as the center of the Catholic community after the Reformation. After the secularization of 1803, the Hospital Church became the first Catholic parish church to serve the Reformation. Quickly becoming too small, it was replaced between 1897 and 1902 by a new three-aisled basilica in Neo-Romanesque form designed by Anton Leipold. The tower, designed by Jakob Angermair, was completed in 1911. The Holy Spirit Church has a main portal, with a figure of King David and a depiction of the first Pentecost, and two side portals (the Prophet Holy Spirit Church _ Aerial Photo 625AZacharias and the Baptism of Christ, as well as the Annunciation scene). A statue of the Virgin Mary several meters high can be seen on the tower. Inside the church are four altars. During the recent renovation, the choir, with its sculptures from the period of construction by Thomas Buscher and Anton Pruska, was uncovered. Music plays a special role in this so-called City Church, which is why the two Steinmeier organs underwent a thorough renovation.
