On the state border near Trappstadt, the Altenburg Castle there and a landwehr fort on the Thuringian side with the Wartberg near Gompertshausen bear witness to the centuries-long border between the two towns. Unfortunately, only remnants of the landwehr remain here, as the former zone border was recklessly established. The plaque does not provide information about the Spanshügel itself, but rather about the former landwehr fort that runs along the Spanshügel. The pictures are clearly legible.

Gatehouses of the same type can be found, for example, in Großeibstadt near Bad Königshofen, in Milz or in Gabolshausen in front of Bad Königshofen. Sometimes they were part of the city wall or city fortifications. Gatehouses at castle and city gates stood next to gates, or the gate was integrated into the gatehouse. Here the gate is in the foreground and the building is attached. These gatehouses regularly served as accommodation for the guards. They also served to collect tax money in the form of tolls or paving fees. Therefore, they were also located at the city gates. And then. Sometime four days ago, my pictures were again rated as inaccurate, as so often happens, so that the reviewer's own would be at the top.
