Access to the castle ruins is closed due to rockfall. You can only see a little bit of the wall remains from the hiking trail.

Several platforms have been built to enjoy the view in complete peace. You don't get in anyone's way. Some of the views are magnificent, while others are less spectacular. It's always a matter of perspective.

On one side the Überlinger See and on the other side the huge rock faces.

In my view, the Marienschlucht as a hiking destination/special feature should be viewed from two perspectives. On one hand, you can admire a very beautiful piece of nature here. On the other hand, there is the imposing steel structure that overlays the entire gorge. As a hiker, what remains in my memory at the end is not the beauty of nature, but the massive steel profiles, the gratings, and the nets of the fall protection railings. Anyone who is a fan of modern and sophisticated steel structures will certainly find something to marvel at here. I understand a natural monument to be something completely different.

Even though it has lost a bit of its former character, it is still a must-see gorge. Little tip, you should just stop more often and enjoy 🤗 many people rush through way too fast.
