I've ridden the Panorama Weg for the second time now and am always thrilled by the view, the route, and the surface. The best time is of course from spring to autumn and it's safest during the week, because there are fewer users around then.

The circular route over/at Hengstberg is very beautiful. We have already hiked this path. Unfortunately, on some of the marked paths, there are no longer any paths. Cross-country and through the Uterholz. Use the indicated farm tracks. Up there is also a memorial stone "fallen girls", whatever that may mean. I already reported the missing paths to Komoot months ago... apparently they are still indicated as usable. Not even passable with an E-MTB! Definitely take a GPS with you and check more often at summit height. Also use farm tracks on the descent. Have fun hiking Pemo Frau and dog

The castle ruins are located on an elongated rock massif, surrounded on three sides by the Ahr River and traversed by two tunnels of the Ahr Valley Railway. The disused tunnel of the former second northern track served as the route of the Ahr Cycle Path until the 2021 flood. The castle complex is approximately 260 meters long and 80 meters wide. The castle consisted of two outer baileys and the inner bailey, separated from each other by deep moats. The excavated material from the moats was used as building material.

St. Maternus is considered the patron saint against fever, contagious diseases, and the prosperity of wine. This latter fact explains why he is especially venerated in wine-growing regions. The Maternus Portal of Cologne Cathedral tells the legend of the saint: Maternus was sent to Gaul by Peter along with Eucharius of Trier, Valerius of Trier, and Clement of Metz. Upon arriving in Avolsheim in Alsace, Maternus is said to have collapsed from exhaustion, whereupon his companions became discouraged and returned to Rome. Peter, however, gave them his shepherd's crook, with which they traveled back to Alsace. With the help of this crook, they revived Maternus, who had already been in his grave for six weeks. Maternus then went to Cologne and founded the congregation there. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maternus
