This small town on the Nevada-California border owes its name to the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, whose name was pulled out of a hat by the found of the Central Pacific Railroad. Its location along the banks of the Truckee River make it a great spot to go for a run, as there are multiple trails along the river's banks. The Sasquatch Tavern & Grill is the best place to fill up pre or post run.

The Tahoe-Pyramid Trail (abbreviated as ‘TPT’) that follows the entire length of the Truckee River, from its source at Lake Tahoe (6225’/1897m) to Pyramid Lake (3796’/1157m). The trail (at 81% completion as of 2023) can be enjoyed by hikers, runners, walkers, or cyclists. There's a short bit of gravel on this alternate route between Reno & Verdi. If you've done the standard ride enough times and are looking for something different this is a good option.
