The good news first😊: The traditional "Hausstätte" (since 1950) is still alive! The new owner Brigitte Stemmer (already the third "Newcomer" after the long-time tenant Michael Winkler left in 2016) now runs the popular beer garden restaurant under the name "Mäng ut de Hand" (a bit unusual!), with "rustic German cuisine". The bad news🥲: Currently, the "Hausstätte" is only open from 4:00 PM, even on Sundays with the best beer garden weather. For 20 years, we stopped here for lunch on long tours. Now we stood (after 2025) for the second time in a row in front of closed doors. Unfortunately, no sign, no notice on site about the changed opening hours. Sad!🙈🥲 You can only find information online. More info at: (05741) 3011 583 (new landline number!); mobile 0151-5297 0872; E-Mail info@mänglübbecke.de! Open: Mon-Sun from 4:00 PM, kitchen 4:30 PM-9:30 PM. Tuesday rest day.

There seems to be another change of tenant at the traditional "Hausstätte" (since 1950). When we wanted to take a lunch break in the beer garden yesterday on our bike tour, as we've been used to for years, we saw the "mess"🙈🥲. The last tenant we experienced here in 2024 had only started at the beginning of 2024. Currently (August 2025), at least the outdoor areas are being completely rebuilt. Let's hope that a new tenant starts as soon as possible and this beautiful restaurant address is preserved for us. 🙏🙏🙏

In April 2013, the NABU Moorhus Visitor Center opened on the western edge of the Großes Torfmoor nature reserve. It presents the history of the Großes Torfmoor from its formation to the present day in a lively and diverse permanent exhibition. The original goal was to provide visitors to the Großes Torfmoor with information about the largest raised bog in North Rhine-Westphalia and its regeneration in a permanent exhibition. Today, the Moorhus has evolved and become established. Lectures and exhibitions, as well as a NABU shop, complement the offerings. Source: nrw.nabu.de

The so-called tractor bollards are a sensible and highly effective measure against illegal motor vehicle traffic. Only such massive barriers can convince even stubborn motorists who ignore prohibition signs. 👍👍👍Hopefully, even drivers of extremely high-legged pseudo-off-road vehicles (so-called "SUVs")!
