It is known for its dark volcanic sand beaches and the extensive Loro Parque Zoo, which is located in the west of the city. Los Roques Beach

Highlight • Beach

Playa de los Roques
El Toscal, Tenerife

The natural surroundings of Playa de los Roques are the real attraction here, with the rocks in the sea and the lush green background offering a real feast for the eyes. For nature lovers this place is a highlight and a must when visiting the north coast of Tenerife.

The beach is not really suitable for swimming or sun-bathing, as the currents and waves can be strong and the surface is uncomfortable to lie on. Also, there is potential danger from rocks breaking off the cliff and crashing onto the beach. However, if you do not want to let this put you off and still want to enjoy the water in a natural setting, then extra care should be taken here.

Well, hello! The trail we wanted to hike today was unfortunately closed, and hiking was prohibited. We went in a little way and took some photos. Many people struggled through the almost overgrown path. We decided to turn back and drove to where the trail ends, but we couldn't find a parking spot. The view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean was beautiful.

The coastal hike from PDC to Mirador San Pedro is NOT closed, as incorrectly claimed here! There is an official detour for the section near Los Roques, which is very easy to follow and well signposted!

The coastal hike from Puerto to Mirador San Perdo is NOT closed, as incorrectly claimed here. A short section near Los Roques has been impassable for some time due to rockfall – however, there has long been an excellent official alternative route to bypass the closure… very well signposted.

A lovely promenade amidst beautiful nature with plenty of park benches. The path leads directly to the Atlantic Ocean, where you can admire surfers in the bay of Puerto de la Cruz. A large shopping center is also located nearby. The path also leads to the Plaza de Europa in Puerto de la Cruz. Highly recommended – there's lots to discover.
