Attention: Currently two closures on the route, and unfortunately not even signposted diversions available. Here you lose time, and have to detour onto roads in the surrounding area. Some of the construction sites have unfortunately been ongoing for quite some time. Neither warned in the OSM data, nor found in the comments for the highlight. 😒 Otherwise, actually a top route.

I find the bridge is a good connection in different directions. Thanks to the S-Bahn station, you can continue to Essen or in another direction to D.dorf up to Cologne. Or by bike to Solingen or further to Baldeneysee or in another direction to E. Kettwig. There is a kiosk at the S-Bahn station and towards Kettwig the Werdener Wiese with a drinking opportunity 🍻🌭and also good views 👁👁👌🚴👊

This is how I imagine an ideal cycling connection: a flat route with a lot of history. An almost beneficial difference compared to the otherwise Wuppertal cycling infrastructure, which makes a detour worthwhile.

The Grugaweg in Essen starts at junction 1 on the Rheinische Bahn and runs for almost 9 kilometers via Essen-Rüttenscheid to the Ruhr.

Common sense, don't go on the weekend - too crowded

Good starting point (beginning of the Nordbahntrasse). Plenty of space in the P&R parking lot (don't park in the EDDEKA parking lot, it could get expensive).
