We started our hike on the Brennersteig near Oberkirch on a glorious spring day. Right from the start, the weather showed its best side: bright sunshine, mild temperatures, and clear visibility accompanied us the entire way. The ascent initially led us through open meadows and sparse forests. Soon we reached the first orchards, where the cherry trees were in full bloom. The white-pink blossoms glowed in the sun, bathing the landscape in an almost fairytale-like atmosphere. We repeatedly stopped to enjoy the view and capture this special moment. Over the next few kilometers, narrow forest paths alternated with scenic passages along vineyards. The view across the Rhine Valley to the Vosges was particularly impressive. The clear spring air made the distant view exceptionally good. Along the way, we passed several farms and small distilleries that are typical of the Brennersteig. Here, the region showed its enjoyable side, even though this time we focused entirely on movement and nature. Unfortunately, the Geigerkopfturm is closed until further notice. After a short break, we continued our journey. The way back led us again through blooming orchards and quiet forest sections. The combination of exercise, nature, and the beautiful cherry blossoms made this hike a true spring experience. In the end, we returned to Oberkirch satisfied and relaxed – with many beautiful impressions and the feeling of having experienced a perfect hiking day.
On the Brennersteig, you need stamina—not just for hiking, but also for tasting 😇. We'd barely left Oberkirch and already three schnapps glasses were in sight. If we'd taken a glass at every stop, we probably would have staggered up the Geigerskopf tower in a zigzag fashion 🥂🌲.
Great trail, little tip: take lots of change with you for the schnapps tastings🤩
Be sure to follow the signs to the Panoramahisli, just a few more meters and you'll get back to the original route without missing anything. Unless you ignore the Panorama Hisli.
Today I put on my hiking boots again and walked a great lap with my darling. The tour is not for alcoholics. We tried both, but only once... 😇
There are over 1100 schnapps distilleries in the Renchtal valley. This hike passes by some of them. On the tour, you can not only taste schnapps and liqueurs, but also wines, selected lemonades and spritzers, beers and mineral waters, and small snacks. The tour is particularly beautiful during the fruit blossom, which has already begun and will certainly also be lovely during harvest times and in autumn. The hike was truly heavenly and incredibly varied. There were distant views into the Black Forest, the Renchtal valley, and the Rhine plain. I hiked across meadows, through vineyards, past orchards, and through forests. My conclusion: Hiking makes you happy, and especially so in the Renchtal valley.
Very nice autumn hike. Worth to hike after. On our way a dog named Jack joined us for 6 km. We then called the owner while we were resting in a yard. Bye Jack ...
Great hike partly over old ravines. You have to be able to drink, because every few meters there is a liquor stand that invites you to linger and drink 😉.
