Visby is considered one of the best-preserved Hanseatic cities and has therefore been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. With its fifty watchtowers, gates, drawbridges, and ramparts, the medieval city appears so defensive, as if it still had to protect its Hanseatic wealth from looters today.
