Wickwar Road Cycle Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A banging cycle track next to the main road. Flat and fast... and also smoother than most roads!

Open Road to Horton

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Beautiful stretch of quiet road between Chipping Sodbury and the hamlet of Horton. There is a lovely open stretch of road there with no hedges, so you can get an open countryside feel. Overall, it is a great scenic ride to Horton on a pretty quiet road.

View of Horton Camp

Highlight • Natural Monument

Once an important line of defence on the edge of the Cotswolds, Horton Camp is now hidden amongst the rolling hills. Built during the Iron Age, you can still find the the curved rampart and ditch. The camp is under management of the National Trust and a popular with hikers and nature lovers. The flowers and lambs are particularly lovely in spring.

Bath Lane Gravel Path

Highlight • Cycleway

Surface is tightly packed gravel and holds up well through bad weather. Would be doable on a road bike but the surface is uneven at the Northern end of the segment.

Somerset Monument

Highlight • Monument

The Somerset Monument was built in 1846 to commemorate Lord Robert Somerset. Lord Somerset was a soldier who fought in the Peninsular War and the War of the Seventh Coalition. he was also MP for Cirencester.
It's a grade 2 listed building about 30m high with a viewing platform at the top.

Lower Woods Nature Reserve

Highlight • Forest

A huge ancient woodland covering 700 acres, Lower Woods is one of the largest forests in the South West. The enchanting nature has remained relatively untouched for several changes – some areas look as they would have 500 years ago. You will not only find fascinating trees here, old meadow species, butterflies and birds also call the forest home.

Although there is no bicycle parking onsite, cyclists are welcome. You will also find various hiking paths. More information can be found, here: gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk/nature-reserves/lower-woods
