The building, which dates back to the Middle Ages, is one of Germany's most important bridges from this period and was extensively renovated between 2010 and 2012. In doing so, one has been able to preserve a large part of the historical structure - and thus also the charm of the main spanning construct.

The mehrbogige stone bridge is for cars only in the city passable. Pedestrians and cyclists, protected by a high curb and on new road surface, can stroll relaxed over the structure in both directions.
