The Klingentor can also be described as the entrance to the historic old town. Formerly known as the Schneller Tower, as a plank bridge for pedestrians "slid down". It gets its current name from its location in the "Clinge", which means something like rushing brook. The gate tower once served as a prison.

The gate tower is a five-storey, square solid building with a bell roof, a slightly protruding upper floor and a depressed, round-arched gateway, which was closed to the outside by a portcullis, of which the claw stones are still preserved. It was probably built in its original form in 1307, rebuilt several times and finally increased in 1598.
