Low Tilberthwaite

Highlight • River

Many excellent hikes can be started from Low Tilberthwaite. Peak baggers can venture east to Holme Fell, the second lowest of all the Wainwrights, or head up into the mighty Coniston Fells. There are also plenty of lovely low level walks around here too. Little Langdale is just a short walk to the northeast and there's also the underground spectacle of Cathedral Cavern to explore.

Coniston Coppermines Historic Site

Highlight • Viewpoint

Absolute gem of a place with the remains of the Coppermine's buildings and machinery all in place. Surrounded by the breathtaking and dramatic scenery of the Coppermines valley with its waterfalls, and The Old Man of Coniston summit within touching distance (metaphorically), shrouded in mist. Multiple paths available from here to explore the surrounding mountains, including The Old Man. Views to die for!

Coniston Coppermines Waterwheel

Highlight • Historical Site

This huge waterwheel, measuring 32 feet (nearly 10 metres) in diameter, was reinstalled at its original home at a former Victorian sawmill in Coniston’s Coppermines valley in 2019. Integral to the mill’s operation from 1850, it was removed when the mine ceased operations in around 1890.

Lovely waterfall tucked into scenery once sculpted by copper mines. Good place for a break or photo on the way to the summit of Coniston.
