The western necropolis of ancient Ambrakia is the most important and best-preserved burial site of the former Corinthian colony. It stretched along an ancient "Sacred Road" that led directly from the southern city gate to the port of Amvrakos on the Ambracian Gulf. The graves were continuously used from the city's founding period in the late 7th century BC until its destruction by the Romans in 167 BC.
