The Marys Rock – Mary's Rock Overlook loop offers some of the best views in Shenandoah National Park, leading you through lush forest canopies and past dense mountain laurel thickets. The terrain varies, with sections of forest floor giving way to rocky stretches, some with large boulders, before reaching the expansive summit. From the top of Mary's Rock, you'll be rewarded with spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Shenandoah Valley and Massanutten Mountain, a truly memorable sight.

This easy hiking route covers 3.4 miles (5.5 km) with a manageable 732 feet (223 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. Access is convenient from Skyline Drive, with popular parking areas at Panorama (Milepost 31.6) or Meadow Spring (Milepost 33.5). Due to its popularity, especially for those seeking Marys Rock hiking trails with great views, arriving early is recommended to secure parking and avoid crowds.

Mary's Rock is notable for its geological significance, being one of the few Blue Ridge crest peaks in the park made of granite. The trail also utilizes a segment of the historic Appalachian Trail, adding to its appeal. Wildlife sightings, including deer and various bird species, are common, and the views are excellent year-round, though fall foliage offers a particularly vibrant experience.
