Temse has a reputation to uphold as a comic strip municipality. All the famous comic strip artists of our country have already been honored here. In 1998, Jef Nys, the spiritual father of Jommeke, commissioned Valeer Peirsman to create a bronze statue of Jommeke. Nys donated the statue to Temse. Peirsman also made the other statue at the Library: the Reading Youth.
