The names engraved on it can only be guessed at.
The memorial was erected 110 years ago in a storm of enthusiasm. In memory of the soldiers who fell in the 1870/71 war against France and the founding of the German Empire under Kaiser Wilhelm I.
Since its ceremonial unveiling on Sunday, September 10, 1911 at 3:30 p.m., the obelisk with the flapping eagle has been a defining feature of Pewsum.
