    Hiking

Almost vertical climb towards the top of the first summit. There are good hand and foot holds on the way up. At the top of this climb the drop to the right is very exposed.
Only consider going up this climb if you are certain you can reverse and lower yourself back down safely.
While we were waiting here this was the point many people decided to turn around and go back down happy to have had a good challenging hike.

The Olomana Trail, often called the "Three Peaks Hike," is a demanding adventure near Kailua, Oahu, known for its thrilling rope scrambles and panoramic vistas. You'll navigate through dense rainforest, over muddy embankments, and up steep, root-covered paths, feeling like you've stepped into a "Jurassic Park" scene. The reward for this challenging 10.3-mile (16.6 km) journey, which includes 1597 feet (487 metres) of elevation gain and takes about 5 hours and 5 minutes, is the spectacular 360-degree view from the first peak, overlooking the Windward coast and Koolau Mountain Range.

Planning your visit requires caution due to the Olomana Trail's difficulty and conditions. The trail is notoriously slippery and muddy, especially after rain, so avoid hiking during wet weather. Always inspect the integrity of the ropes before use, as they are not professionally maintained. Parking is available near the trailhead, but it's wise to arrive early to secure a spot. This route is best for experienced hikers comfortable with technical climbing and exposure.

This iconic trail is notable for its unique three distinct peaks, a recognizable landmark on Oahu, and its adventurous elements like bouldering and narrow ridge walks. Beyond the physical challenge, Olomana holds cultural significance for Native Hawaiians. However, its reputation for danger, particularly past the first peak, underscores the need for good judgment and experience on this difficult Mount Olomana hiking trail.
