Two sculptures commemorate a turbulent era, 'The Eighty Years' War'. One sculpture depicts a vanquished figure, head bowed, offering their sword to the victor. The vanquished stands on a low steel pedestal, the victor on a higher one.
The artwork is by Kathleen Verhegge & Ronald de Maet.
The sculptures are bronze with a corten steel base.
The Spanish warrior (on the triangular Ravelin) next to a sunken Spanish ship offers the sword to Frederik Hendrik (on the rampart with lances) as a sign of surrender of the Spaniards to the States during the Eighty Years' War.
