Hiking
In the late Hallsteinzeit, in the 6th century BC, the Limberg was developed into a permanent castle. You can see the remains of the outer protective wall, which today also forms the boundary between Gisingen and Oberlimberg; this sealed off the Limberg precisely at its narrow land bridge to the Gauplateau. Two further trenches and ramparts protected the tongue-shaped mountain range of the Limberg towards the Gauplatte. On the border with the area of the older Hunsrück-Eifel culture, Limberg was the prince seat of the western Späthallstatt culture, which is ascribed to the early Celts.
