The Smedenpoort is one of the four remaining city gates of Bruges. The first gate dates from 1297-99, but was rebuilt in 1367-68 by the master masons Jan Slabbert and Mathias Saghen. Later it was rebuilt several times. Characteristic of this gate is that, just like the Donkey Gate, it is completely surrounded by water.
