This old railway bridge was 'pimped' in 2020 by artist Tom, who specialises in murals with his company Qwallity. The artwork gives walkers the impression that you are looking at a train passing the bridge over the Demer. In times long past, the Boemelke transported pilgrims from Zichem station to Scherpenheuvel.
From the bridge itself, the illusion is created that you are looking over the Demer from a wagon window.

On the steel bridge walls of the old railway bridge over the Demer, a train compartment is painted on both sides. The milled window openings offer a view of the painted train from the Demerdijk, where walkers can sit at the window.

Hiking

This bridge dates from the time of 't Trainke. The station in Zichem was opened in 1865. From 1894, the track got a branch to Scherpenheuvel. There, 't trainke, track 30, ran. 't Trainke brought many pilgrims to Scherpenheuvel. In 1974, this branch was closed and part of the rails removed. In 2007, the last part of the tracks was broken up and opened to walkers and cyclists. In this way, they got a beautiful, direct connection route between Zichem and Scherpenheuvel.
