The current church was built in 1776-1777 by order of Mrs. de Bousies, the last abbess of Vorst Abbey. The officiating pastor was Petrus Demol, who is buried in the crossing. The bluestone doorframe of the entrance door bears the founding inscription "abbatIsa forestiensIs,De boUsIes nobIs strUXIt eCCLestIaM" with a chronogram of 1776. The coat of arms of Vorst Abbey was embedded in the tower.
