Hiking

The soil quality in the surrounding area can be recognized from this small quarry. The layers of lime and marl were deposited in the Chalk Sea about 100 million years ago. You can see large chalk limestone banks with many gaps. The water seeps away very quickly in the crevices and fissures. This also explains why there are few streams on the Paderborn plateau.

There are several sand-lime stone quarries in the forest. The structure is easy to see from the breaks. The stone layers are porous and allow the water to seep through unhindered. Trees seem to find a good hold here.
