On June 7, 1222, the Antonine monastery in Tempzin was founded as a hospital by Heinrich Borwin I, his wife Adelheid, and his sons from his first marriage, Heinrich Borwin II and Nikolaus II. The church is a three-nave country house of enormous proportions, as one would hardly expect in the flat countryside. The vaults are from the early 16th century, and in the side aisle even only from 1909 - 12.

Here are tree-covered mounds, inside which are Bronze Age tombs. If the two signs weren't right next to this special archaeological site, you'd walk past them without paying any attention.

Kloster Tempzin Tempzin was located on an important trade route in the 13th century. In 1222, the Antonine monastery was founded as a preceptory and hospital for the treatment of the feared "St. Anthony's Fire", an intoxication caused by ergot fungus, which primarily occurred in rye, the main foodstuff at the time. Initially, the property included the village of Tempzin, 1/3 of the Tempziner See, extensive arable land, the Mühlenbach stream, and the Sültener Salzwiesen salt marshes. The hospital monastery was very successful and widely known.
