In about 1917, a head (made of Nivelsteiner sandstone) of a Roman lady was found in Voerendaal, from a grave monument. It was supposed to be a richer lady, because the hairstyle that was fashionable at the time was especially popular with richer ladies. The lady was found along the road from Cologne to Boulogne-sur-Mer, the Via Belgica. A work of art has now been placed in front of Voerendaal station, consisting of Corten steel and filled with several tons of Nivelstener limestone.
