The Gebr. Remmerde mill is a unique one; it has a hexagonal shape. These mills are very rare in the Netherlands. Today, fewer than ten remain. The mill is no longer in use, but the current owner – the Remmerde family – offers guided tours.

Around 1900, brickworks were crucial to Aalst. The work in them was incredibly grueling. To keep the memory of the factories alive and to recognize the factory workers, this monument to the brickworks community was erected in 1999.

The Gebr. Remmerde is a hexagonal wooden ground-sailer in the village of Nederhemert (municipality of Zaltbommel) in Gelderland. The mill, which is placed on a high brick base, is covered with roofing felt. Hexagonal mills are not very common in the Netherlands anymore: in 2008 there were eight in total. The mill was probably built in 1716 and originally belonged to Nederhemert castle. In 1756 it was sold to Jelis van Oort. After that the mill was sold several times. The Remmerde family acquired the mill in 1868. The current owner has a cattle feed company, but no longer uses the mill. However, the family does provide guided tours. The Gebr. Remmerde is capable of grinding. The mill has two pairs of millstones with which grain can be ground. The hoist is a drag hoist.
